Mou Waho is open year-round. Summer (December to February) is the peak season. Morning departures are often recommended because Lake Wānaka can get choppy with afternoon winds.

Preparing for the Walk
The track from the boat landing to the lookout is under 3 kilometers return, but it is steep and rocky. Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes or hiking boots. The island's highest point is Tyrwhitt Peak at 473 meters elevation.
There is no drinking water available on the island, and the single composting toilet near the start often lacks paper. Pack your own water, light snacks, toilet paper, and hand sanitizer. Remember to take all rubbish back with you.

Planning questions
What should I wear?
Wear sturdy walking shoes, warm layers, and a waterproof jacket. The weather on the lake can change quickly. Bring a sun hat and sunscreen.
Are there toilets on the island?
There is one basic composting toilet provided by the Department of Conservation near the start of the track. Bring your own toilet paper.
Can I bring food?
Yes, but you must take all rubbish away with you. Do not feed the native Buff Weka, even though they might try to steal your food.
